Quick Facts: Port Klang (Pelabuhan Klang) | Malaysia | Westport / North Port cruise terminals | Docked | ~5 km to Klang city center, ~40 km to Kuala Lumpur city center | UTC+8
Port Klang is the gateway cruise port for Kuala Lumpur and the royal town of Klang itself โ home to Malaysia’s most famous bowl of bak kut teh (pork bone herbal soup). The single most important planning tip: decide early whether you’re heading to Klang town (easy, cheap, 15 minutes) or Kuala Lumpur (doable but 45โ60 minutes each way, requiring careful time management).

Port & Terminal Information
Port Klang has 2 main cruise berths: Westport (the more common cruise terminal for larger ships) and North Port (older, smaller vessels). Both are docked arrivals โ no tendering โ so you’ll be off the ship quickly. Check your itinerary or the ship’s daily newsletter to confirm which terminal you’re at, as they’re about 3 km apart.
Terminal facilities are functional rather than impressive: a small tourist information desk, money changers (rates are mediocre โ better to use ATMs in town), and taxis waiting outside. Wi-Fi is unreliable at the terminal. There’s no official luggage storage, so leave bags on the ship.
Find your terminal location on Google Maps before you step off โ it’ll save confusion and help you orient your taxi or Grab driver.

Getting to the City

On Foot โ The terminal area itself has little of interest. Klang town center is ~5 km away โ walkable in theory but not recommended in Malaysia’s heat and humidity.
KTM Komuter Train โ The closest station to Westport is Teluk Pulai or Port Klang station (~10-minute taxi to the station, then trains to KL Sentral every 20โ30 minutes). Fare: ~MYR 6โ8 (USD 1.50โ2) to KL Sentral. Journey: 45โ55 minutes. This is the budget option for KL.
Taxi โ Metered taxis or Grab (Malaysia’s Uber equivalent) are your best bet. Grab is strongly recommended over street taxis to avoid overcharging. Port โ Klang town center: MYR 15โ25 (USD 3โ6), 15 minutes. Port โ Kuala Lumpur city center: MYR 80โ120 (USD 18โ27), 45โ60 minutes depending on traffic. Download the Grab app before you travel.
Hop-On Hop-Off โ No HOHO bus operates directly from Port Klang. Some services run in KL city center once you’ve arrived independently.
Rental Car/Scooter โ Not practical from the cruise terminal. Traffic around KL can be unpredictable and parking is stressful.
Ship Shore Excursion โ Worth it if your ship calls for less than 6 hours or if you want the firefly cruise at Kuala Selangor without logistical stress. Independent travelers on a full day can cover more ground at a fraction of the cost. Kuala Lumpur cruise excursions from Port Klang are available on Viator from USD 80 for a well-organized city day.
