Arriving by Ship
Sur does not have a purpose-built cruise terminal, so most vessels anchor offshore and tender passengers into the small harbour area near the city centre. The port infrastructure is modest, so expect a relaxed, low-key arrival rather than a polished terminal experience. This actually works in your favour — you’re immediately immersed in a working Omani port town rather than a sanitised tourist zone.

Avoid the mass-produced plastic souvenirs that sneak into tourist-facing stalls. Focus instead on frankincense resin and a proper brass burner (mabkhara) — both pack flat, both smell extraordinary, and both are genuinely Omani. Bargaining is acceptable but gentle; Omanis are not hard sellers.
