A cruise day does not always end in the late afternoon. Some schedules leave enough room for dinner ashore, sunset away from the ship or a slower return after the main daytime plan. The difference is large enough to influence which itinerary you choose.
La Romana leads this ranking, with 89.6% of its timed calls scheduled to depart at or after 8 PM. Le Havre is close behind at 89.4%, though the shape of the evening is different. La Romana’s median departure is 11:30 PM, while Le Havre’s is 8 PM.
Our schedule covers the sailings we track and undercounts some lines, so the percentages are best used to compare ports within the same snapshot. They are scheduled times, not a promise about the actual day of arrival or departure.
The top 20 for a late departure
The 10 PM column separates a useful early evening from a genuinely late night. Le Havre places second because many calls reach 8 PM, but only 4.1% reach 10 PM. Honolulu, Victoria, Gustavia and Las Palmas have a much larger share after 10 PM.

La Romana has the latest pattern at the top
La Romana has 67 usable timed calls in the comparison. Sixty are scheduled at or after both 8 PM and 10 PM, which produces the 89.6% shares and the 11:30 PM median. That is a different kind of stop from a port where 8 PM is the practical ceiling.
Treat the extra hours as room for one daytime plan plus an unhurried evening. Keep the ship’s stated all-aboard time as the hard limit, since the published departure is not your personal return deadline.
Honolulu and Victoria run well beyond dinner
Honolulu has a 10 PM median departure, and 63.3% of its timed calls leave at or after 10 PM. One Oceania Riviera call on October 5, 2026 is scheduled from 6 AM to 9 PM. Emerald Princess follows on October 6 with a 7 AM arrival and 11 PM departure. Those are long published windows that can accommodate a daytime plan and dinner ashore without treating the evening as an afterthought.
Victoria’s median is 11 PM, with 58.9% of timed calls at or after 10 PM. These are late evening calls on US West Coast itineraries. The arrival time still matters: a late departure does not necessarily mean a full day in port, so read the complete pair of times before making plans.
An 8 PM departure still changes the day
Le Havre’s 8 PM median is earlier than the leaders with 10 PM or 11 PM medians, yet its schedule still reaches the evening on most timed calls. Norwegian Star is listed there from 8 AM to 9 PM on September 30, 2026. AIDAperla is listed from 8 AM to 8 PM on October 6. The later Norwegian call leaves more margin for a meal ashore after the main daytime plan.
Skagway has the largest timed sample in the top 10, with 193 calls. Its median departure is 8:15 PM, and 72.5% leave at or after 8 PM. None of its timed calls in this snapshot reach 10 PM. The useful advantage is a longer early evening, rather than a late night.
Santorini follows a similar pattern. Its median is 8 PM, while 24.1% of timed calls reach 10 PM. Tendering adds a transfer between ship and shore, so the scheduled departure should never be treated as the time to arrive at the waterfront.
Late departures by region
Alaska has the highest regional share of departures at or after 8 PM, at 30.6% across 11 qualifying ports. Africa and the Middle East follows at 27.5%, while Hawaii and the Mediterranean are close together. Only regions with five or more ports that met the 20-call threshold are included.
| Region | Qualifying ports | Timed calls | 8 PM or later | 10 PM or later | Average departure |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alaska | 11 | 1,285 | 30.6% | 6.6% | 5:54 PM |
| Africa & Middle East | 5 | 357 | 27.5% | 11.5% | 6:41 PM |
| Hawaii | 5 | 233 | 24.9% | 15.5% | 6:35 PM |
| Mediterranean | 91 | 9,154 | 24.6% | 10.2% | 6:31 PM |
| Northern Europe | 77 | 5,266 | 20.4% | 4.5% | 6:05 PM |
| Asia | 34 | 1,623 | 18.4% | 7.7% | 6:04 PM |
| Canada & New England | 9 | 486 | 17.3% | 5.1% | 5:53 PM |
| Mexico & Pacific Coast | 16 | 1,240 | 15.1% | 6.1% | 5:46 PM |
| South America | 19 | 679 | 12.4% | 1.9% | 5:19 PM |
| Caribbean | 54 | 6,151 | 11.2% | 6.4% | 5:37 PM |
| Australia & Pacific | 34 | 1,536 | 10.7% | 4.3% | 5:46 PM |
Use the full time window before booking
A late departure is most valuable when the arrival also gives you a workable day. Celebrity Infinity illustrates the difference in Thessaloniki. Its October 3, 2026 call runs from 6:30 AM to 8 PM, while its October 6 call runs from 10:30 AM to 9 PM. Both reach the evening, but the first offers a much longer total window.
Build the day from the return time backward. Reserve enough time for the trip back to the port, any tender transfer and the ship’s all-aboard requirement. Then decide whether the remaining evening suits dinner ashore, sunset or simply a less compressed version of the daytime plan.
