Alcudia is a small walled Old Town on the northern coast of Mallorca, about 70 km north of Palma. Ships dock at a modern pier (Muelle de Costa) just outside town; the Old Town and beach are both within 10–15 min walk. The port is popular with smaller and mid-sized cruise lines (MSC, Costa, Regent, Seabourn, Azamara) but is not a major turnaround port.
Alcudia itself is modest: a charming but compact medieval quarter with narrow alleys, a parish church, and ramparts; a clean, shallow beach on a long bay; and modest restaurants and cafés. It's a relaxation port, not a cultural powerhouse. Most cruisers come to swim, explore the Old Town briefly, and eat lunch. If you want more activity, Palma is within reach by rental car or organized tour, but that requires a longer port day.
Realistically, Alcudia is best for cruisers seeking a low-key Mediterranean stop, families with young children, or anyone happy to skip a port day ashore. It works well as a rest day between busier ports.
Alcudia is very safe. Petty theft is minimal; violent crime against tourists is rare. The Old Town is well-lit and busy during day; the beach area is relaxed and monitored. As with any port, keep valuables secure and don't walk alone late at night if you wander beyond the main streets. Police presence is discreet but adequate. Water safety: Alcudia Beach is monitored by lifeguards in summer; currents are generally mild.
The Old Town has medieval narrow streets and some uneven cobblestones; wheelchair users will find it challenging but not impossible on main routes. The beach approach is flat but may require assistance over sand. Taxis can drop you at the Old Town entrance; from there, a companion or accessible tour is advisable. Terminal facilities are modern and accessible. Accessible restrooms are available in and near the terminal.
Exit the ship into a modern cruise terminal building with restrooms, a small café, and phone charging. Just outside, you'll see signs to the Old Town (Alcudia Vieja) and the beach. The promenade is flat and paved. A few small shops and cafés line the immediate area, but the real action is a 10 min walk into the Old Town or along the beach. No aggressive touts or vendors; the atmosphere is calm and orderly.
Main town beach, long and sandy with shallow entry. Family-friendly, lifeguarded in summer, good facilities and beach bars. Not as crowded as southern resort beaches.
Smaller, quieter beach north of Alcudia town, backed by marshland and pines. Less touristy, rockier entry, fewer facilities. Scenic but less convenient from port.
Alcudia's dining is casual and affordable. The Old Town and beachfront have small family-run restaurants and cafés serving Spanish and Mallorcan fare: paella, seafood, tapas, empanadas, and bocadillos (sandwiches). Expect €8–15 for a simple lunch, €12–20 for dinner. Beach bars offer burgers, pizzas, and drinks (€5–10). Quality is honest rather than haute; don't expect Michelin-star restaurants. Many places close in low season (Oct–Apr). Supermarkets near the port sell picnic supplies cheaply.
Alcudia Old Town has small souvenir and craft shops selling local ceramics, textiles, and cheap beachwear. Nothing sophisticated. A few gift shops in the terminal and near the port exit. Palma has serious shopping (brands, malls, markets), but it's not practical for a short port day. Generally low expectations for shopping; come prepared or buy basics.
Old Town and beach are both walkable from the pier (10–15 min each). Terminal area is flat and straightforward.
Taxis available at port exit; useful only if heading to Palma or elsewhere on the island (not recommended for Old Town or beach).
