Angkor Ban is a small river anchorage on the Mekong, used primarily as the embarkation and disembarkation point for Uniworld, Avalon Waterways, Viking River Cruises, AmaWaterways, Emerald Waterways, Scenic, and Tauck river cruises. The "port" is not a town or developed harbor—it is a remote moorage with minimal shore infrastructure. Ships anchor and tender passengers to/from a small dock or floating platform. There are no shops, restaurants, hotels, or walkable attractions within reasonable distance. Angkor Ban serves as a logistics hub, not a leisure destination. If you are boarding or disembarking, plan to arrive on time and expect to spend your port day onboard or in pre-arranged ship excursions only.

Is It Safe?

Angkor Ban itself is low-crime and poses no safety concern for passengers who remain in the designated dock and tender areas. However, the surrounding region is rural and undeveloped; there are no pedestrian amenities, signage, or English-speaking locals nearby. Petty theft is rare but possible in crowded dock areas; keep valuables secure. Do not wander beyond the dock unescorted or without arrangement with your ship. Road transport outside the port is generally safe if booked through official channels, but infrastructure is basic and traffic rules are loosely enforced. Stay with organized group activities or pre-arranged private transport only.

Accessibility & Walkability

The dock may have steep or unstable gangways, slippery surfaces (especially during monsoon), and uneven terrain. Wheelchair accessibility is not guaranteed and depends on water levels and dock configuration at the time of your visit. Notify your cruise line of mobility needs well in advance so they can arrange appropriate tender assistance. The port itself is not walkable; all movement is via ship-organized transport.

Outside the Terminal

Exiting the tender dock, you will see a small floating platform or wooden jetty with minimal facilities—perhaps one or two small structures for immigration or security checks. Beyond the immediate dock area is rural Cambodian countryside: rice paddies, palm trees, and local villages. There are no shops, restaurants, or tourist amenities in sight. The atmosphere is quiet and undeveloped. Your ship will clearly indicate where to wait for tenders and which areas are off-limits. Do not leave the designated dock zone.

There are no restaurants or food vendors at the Angkor Ban dock. All meals are served onboard your cruise ship. If you plan a pre-cruise or post-cruise stay in Siem Reap (the nearest city, ~45 km away), excellent Khmer and international cuisine is available at mid-range to upscale restaurants. Otherwise, eat onboard before disembarking or after re-boarding. Street food and local eateries exist in Siem Reap town, but not at the port anchorage.

Shopping

There is no shopping at Angkor Ban. The dock area has no stores or market stalls. If you wish to buy Cambodian souvenirs, textiles, or handicrafts, visit Siem Reap's Old Market or Artisans Angkor during an organized shore excursion. Otherwise, wait until a later port on your Mekong itinerary where towns and markets are more accessible.
