For cruisers who want a city fix, Dresden is reachable by S-Bahn regional train in about 50-60 minutes and makes an excellent independent excursion. But do not ignore what is right outside your cabin window — the scenery here is why this stretch of the Elbe is on river cruise itineraries in the first place.

The train station is a short walk along the waterfront.
