Bar Harbor is a tender port, not a dock-and-step-off stop. Swimming happens, but mostly by the brave or the very young. The beach itself and the surrounding bowl of cliffs are worth the trip even if you don't go in the water.
Local Food & Drink
Bar Harbor does seafood well, and most cruisers are here for lobster rolls, clam chowder, oysters, blueberry pie, and simple pub food. You will not struggle to find something decent within walking distance of the tender landing.
The catch is timing. On cruise days, the most obvious restaurants can develop real waits around lunch. If your day is short, eat early, late, or pick a less obvious cafe or pub a block or two off the busiest stretch.
Shopping
Shopping is easy but not a reason to build your whole port day around Bar Harbor. Expect souvenir shops, local foods, outdoor clothing, gifts, art, and the usual coastal-town retail mix.
