Expedition and ultra-luxury cruise lines (Ponant, Regent, Seabourn, Windstar) visit here as part of Japan itineraries, often in spring or autumn. A port call here signals a cruise designed for nature, solitude, and cultural discovery—not beach resorts or shore excursions. Most cruisers either join ship-organized excursions or take a guided walk into the small village. Independent exploration is possible but limited by lack of services and transport.

Chichijima is safe from crime; petty theft and violence are not concerns. The primary safety issue is ocean hazard: currents, rip tides, and waves can be strong, especially on exposed coasts. The island has no hospitals; serious injuries require evacuation to Tokyo. Sun exposure is intense; bring strong sunscreen and hat. Outside the Terminal

You will tender ashore to a small harbor landing at Futami. The landing area is functional but bare: a concrete pier, a few storage sheds, and nothing else. Within 2 min you will be on a narrow road with houses and vegetation. The village feels very quiet and residential; there are no souvenir shops or tourist facilities immediately visible. Most cruisers either follow organized excursion groups or walk uphill toward the village center.
