Haiti
Royal Caribbean's private resort with dedicated pier access; no tendering required.
Labadee is a private beach port 25 miles north of Cap-Haïtien, owned and operated by Royal Caribbean for its cruise lines. Ships dock directly at the pier; the entire port is a fenced resort compound with no town access. You get a guarded, controlled beach environment with organized activities (zip-lining, parasailing, snorkeling, water sports), restaurants, and bars—but no authentic Haiti experience or independent exploration. It's ideal for families and cruisers seeking a carefree beach day without logistical complexity. Most passengers spend 4–8 hours here; there's little reason to stay longer.
Labadee's main beach is calm, clear, well-maintained, and free. Gentle slope, lifeguards, no rocks. Best Caribbean beach experience for the effort.
⚡ Popular — books out early. Reserve before you sail.
Canopy zip-line over the beach bluff. 8–10 lines, about 30–40 minutes of actual zip time. Thrilling but queues often run 45–60 min during peak ship hours.
Vendors operate watersports concessions on the beach. Parasailing is the most popular and scenic. Prices are premium but included in some cruise packages.
Rent snorkel gear and wade from the beach. Visibility is fair to good; coral and fish are present but not exceptional. Less crowded than organized snorkel tours.

Labadee itself is secure—the port is a private, guarded, all-inclusive compound with international security and constant supervision. The beaches and activity zones are monitored. That said, Haiti outside the port has real safety challenges (gang activity, petty theft, limited police presence). Do not wander beyond the port gates or dock area. If you book an off-port excursion, use official Royal Caribbean vendors only; independent taxi tours are inadvisable. Keep valuables in your cabin and carry minimal cash.
Labadee is relatively accessible within the compound. The pier is flat, beaches have gentle entry, and most activity zones are paved or short-walk accessible. Wheelchair users can access the beach and main facilities, though uneven sand and water entry may limit some activities. Ramps and accessible restrooms are available. The terrain is not challenging, but the heat and sun exposure can be demanding for mobility-limited guests.
You exit the ship directly onto a controlled pier into a fenced beach resort. There's no chaotic port market, no touts, no town smell or noise—just organized beach compound with clear signage, beach bars, and palm trees. The vibe is safe, sterile, and fully commercial. Within 2 minutes you're on sand or at an activity desk. This is the opposite of stepping into a real port town.
The only substantial beach on the compound. Wide, sandy, well-maintained, clear turquoise water, gentle slope, lifeguards, and shaded areas. Quality comparable to resort beaches in the region.
Dining at Labadee is casual and premium-priced. Beach grills serve burgers, jerk chicken, and seafood ($15–25 per plate). The main restaurant offers buffet-style Caribbean lunch ($12–18). Bars serve tropical drinks ($8–15). Quality is acceptable but not memorable; food is standard cruise-port fare, not local cuisine. Bring cash or a card; most venues accept both. If you want authentic Haitian food, you'll need an off-port excursion, which most cruisers skip due to time and hassle.
A small market area near the pier sells crafts, jewelry, and souvenirs—typical Caribbean tourist goods. Prices are high and haggling is expected. Quality is mediocre; items are mass-produced and overpriced compared to other Caribbean ports. Unless you need a souvenir, skip it. No major brand retail.
The entire facility is a fenced zone. Beach, activities, restaurants, and shops are all within 5–10 minute walks of the pier. No transport needed.
Optional shore excursions to Cap-Haïtien or local villages are sold onboard. These depart from the port and require advance booking.

Not easily. Cap-Haïtien is 25 miles away. Optional shore excursions are available, but involve 2–3 hour round trips. Most cruisers skip this for beach time.
Yes. Clear water, gentle slope, lifeguards, and calm conditions make it one of the better cruise-port beaches in the Caribbean. Crowds peak mid-day.
