Ocean Cay is a 70-acre private island operated exclusively by Royal Caribbean and used by multiple cruise lines in their fleet. Ships dock at a modern pier with immediate access to the beach and resort facilities. The island is entirely port-controlled, safe, and designed for one-day leisure; there is no town, no off-island exploration, and no cultural or historical sites. If you want a beach day without hassle or planning, this is ideal. If you crave local culture or adventure beyond the resort, you'll find none here.

Is It Safe?

Ocean Cay is a gated, port-controlled private island with robust security. There is virtually no crime risk because the entire operation is managed by Royal Caribbean. No alcohol is permitted off-ship (except what you buy on the island). Water quality is monitored and safe for swimming and snorkeling. The pier, beaches, and facilities are actively staffed. This is one of the safest port calls in the Caribbean.

Accessibility & Walkability

The island is largely flat and accessible. Main pathways from the pier to beaches are paved and stroller-friendly. Cay Beach has accessible rest rooms, shaded seating, and calm water entry. Paradise Beach is slightly more rugged underfoot but still navigable with assistance. Wheelchairs are available for rent on request. Mobility concerns should be flagged at the port desk upon arrival.

Outside the Terminal

Disembark the ship directly onto a modern pier with shade structures and wayfinding. Within 50 meters, you'll see the main beach (Cay Beach) straight ahead with loungers, umbrellas, and the food court. The environment is clean, relaxed, and immediately feels like a resort. No hawkers, no chaos, no off-island distractions—just beach and organized facilities.

Dining on Ocean Cay is resort-casual and moderately priced. Cay Beach has a casual food court with burgers, sandwiches, salads, and island fare (budget $12–18 USD per item). A sit-down restaurant near the pier offers more upscale options (entrees ~$20–35 USD). Pizza and ice cream carts are scattered around. Prices are higher than on-ship; many cruisers pack snacks from their cabins or eat breakfast and dinner on the ship, using Ocean Cay time solely for the beach. Alcoholic drinks are available but pricey (beer ~$8, cocktails ~$12–16 USD).

Shopping

There is one small gift shop near the pier selling sunscreen, snacks, beach gear, and Ocean Cay branded souvenirs. Selection is limited and prices are marked up. Bring sunscreen from the ship if possible. No other retail or market options exist on the island. This is not a shopping port.

Getting there
