Viking Octantis is a purpose-built, 378-guest expedition ship designed for Antarctica, the Arctic and North America’s Great Lakes. Its Polar Class 6 hull, stabilizers and integrated expedition marina support operations in challenging waters, while the relatively small size allows access to destinations beyond the reach of larger cruise ships. Passenger spaces emphasize Scandinavian design, panoramic observation areas and scientific enrichment rather than large-scale resort attractions. The ship carries 189 staterooms and combines expedition equipment with restaurants, a spa, pools and lecture facilities.

The ship is primarily designed for adult expedition travel and does not present a dedicated children’s club or large family-entertainment complex.
Facilities include the Nordic Spa, fitness center, sauna and hydrotherapy areas, plus indoor and outdoor pools.
The deck plan includes accessible stateroom provisions and a wheelchair-accessible lift serving the principal cabin and public decks.
Viking describes the expedition ships as using energy-efficient design, engine heat-recovery systems, Azipod electric propulsion and SILENT-E notation to reduce underwater noise.
