The good news is that the town itself is the reward. Bad Wimpfen has one of the best-preserved medieval streetscapes in Germany, anchored by the ruins of a 13th-century Hohenstaufen imperial palace, a ring of intact city walls, and the Blue Tower (Blauer Turm) — a landmark you will spot from the ship. It never gets the crowds of Heidelberg or Rothenburg, which makes wandering its lanes genuinely pleasant.

This is a short-call port by design. Most river cruise itineraries allocate 3-5 hours here, which is exactly right. Don't expect a full day's worth of activity — embrace the fact that you can see the best of it comfortably, eat lunch, and be back on board relaxed rather than exhausted.
