Cabo San Lucas is one of the easier tender ports in Mexico, but it is still a tender port. Ships anchor in the bay and use tender boats to bring passengers into the marina area, so your real shore time is always less than the schedule suggests. If your ship says 8:00 to 5:00, do not assume you actually have nine easy hours ashore.
Once you land, Cabo is straightforward. The marina, downtown streets, restaurants, tour booths, bars, and the route toward Medano Beach are all close together. This is a good port for a DIY half day, a casual beach day, a short boat ride to Land's End, or a simple lunch-and-walk day. It is not a place where you need a big plan unless you booked a whale watch, fishing trip, or longer tour.
The trade-off is crowds and a very commercial feel. Cabo is scenic, convenient, and easy to use, but it is not subtle. Expect vendors, loud waterfront energy, and plenty of people trying to sell boat rides. If that sounds annoying, keep your day focused and short.
Cabo is one of the easier Mexican cruise stops to manage, and the main tourist zone around the marina is heavily geared toward visitors. The usual issues are not dramatic crime but petty theft, inflated prices, and aggressive sales tactics. Keep your phone and wallet secure, especially in crowded marina areas and bars.
The bigger real risk for many cruisers is water safety. Medano Beach is the usual swimmable choice, but not every Cabo beach is safe for swimming. Pacific-facing beaches can have dangerous surf and currents even when they look calm. If locals say not to swim, listen.
If you are drinking, remember you still need to clear the tender process back to the ship. Leave extra time and do not cut it close.
This is not the easiest port for full mobility access because the day starts with a tender. Even if the destination ashore is fairly flat, tender boarding can be the deciding factor, especially in rougher conditions. Some ships may limit tender use for certain mobility devices depending on sea state and equipment.
Once ashore, the marina area is the most manageable part of Cabo. Surfaces vary, curb cuts are inconsistent, and the walk toward downtown or the beach can involve uneven pavement, crowds, and heat. If accessibility is a priority, staying near the marina and using a taxi for longer moves is the realistic approach.
There is no classic cruise terminal here. You step off the tender into the marina zone and straight into Cabo's tourist engine: boat operators, vendors, signs for tours, restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops. It is lively and convenient, but it can feel like everyone wants a minute of your time.
The upside is that you are basically already where most people want to be. You do not need a shuttle into town. If you have no plan, the easiest move is to walk the marina first, get your bearings, and decide whether you want a boat ride, beach time, lunch, or just a short wander.
Best all-around beach for cruisers: swimmable, lively, and close enough to combine with lunch or a boat ride.
Scenic but less practical for cruise timing because you need boat access and conditions can change.
Dramatic Pacific-side scenery, but generally not for swimming. Go for the view, not a water day.
Cabo is easy for food. Around the marina and downtown you will find everything from quick tacos and seafood to polished tourist restaurants with bay views. If your goal is a reliable port lunch, this is one of the easier Mexican cruise stops to handle without much planning.
The obvious warning: the most convenient waterfront places are often priced for visitors. That does not mean bad, just not cheap. If you walk a few streets back from the marina, prices often improve and the atmosphere gets less polished and more normal.
If you are on a short call, do not overthink it. Pick somewhere busy, shaded, and close enough that tender timing will not become a problem.
Shopping is everywhere around the marina and downtown core: souvenirs, jewelry, tequila, T-shirts, and beachwear dominate. It is easy, but it is also repetitive. If you love browsing, great. If not, do not let it eat your whole day.
Expect bargaining in some independent stalls and very fixed pricing in nicer stores. As usual in Cabo, convenience close to the tender landing often means higher prices.
Best way to handle the marina, downtown core, and the route toward Medano Beach. Most cruisers can do a full simple day without transport.
Useful for Medano Beach clubs, farther restaurants, or if you want to skip the walk back in the heat.

Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line & more sail to Cabo San Lucas.
No. Cruise ships anchor in the bay and use tender boats to bring passengers ashore, which cuts into your usable time.
It varies by ship, weather, and crowd levels. The boat ride itself is short, but the full process can take much longer if there are lines.
Yes. Once you land, the marina and downtown Cabo are right there and easy to reach on foot.
Medano Beach is the most practical choice. It is swimmable, lively, and close enough to combine with other plans.
Yes, actually better than many ports. A marina walk, short boat trip, and lunch or Medano Beach make a realistic half-day plan.
Generally yes in the main tourist areas, with normal precautions. The bigger problems are petty theft, inflated prices, and risky swimming in the wrong places.
Near-port tours can work fine, but tender ports reduce your margin for error. For longer or more complicated plans, ship excursions are the safer call.
Reasonably, but mainly as a scenic marina town rather than a major culture stop. If you do not want beach time, stick to the marina, downtown walk, boat views, and lunch.
