Ships anchor offshore; tenders required to reach Senggigi Beach port facility.
Lombok is a small island east of Bali, served by luxury expedition and small-ship cruises via anchorage. Ships tender passengers to Senggigi Beach or nearby landing points; there is no deep-water cruise terminal. The port is a launch point for beach time, snorkeling, and casual island exploration—not a cultural or city-intensive stop. Most cruisers spend a few hours on the beach and return. The island is less developed and less crowded than Bali, which appeals to expedition cruise passengers seeking quieter shores. Expect warm weather year-round, rustic infrastructure, and a relaxed pace.

The coral reef runs parallel to Senggigi Beach and is accessible from shore. Colorful fish, coral gardens, and turtles are common. Gear rental (mask, snorkel, fins) is available on the beach for $5–10 USD per set. If you bring your own gear, entry is free.
⚡ Popular — books out early. Reserve before you sail.
Small open-air cafes line Senggigi Beach, serving grilled fish, satay, fried rice, and fresh fruit smoothies. Quality and hygiene are basic but acceptable. A full meal (fish, rice, drink) costs $3–8 USD. Eating here is part of the Lombok experience and supports local small business.
A casual stroll along the beach and main road takes you past small hotels, souvenir shops, and views of the coastline and offshore islands. No formal tour needed; just walk and explore. Good photo opportunities.
A quiet, car-free island 40 min by speedboat from Senggigi. Good snorkeling, low-key vibe, and fewer tourists. Speedboat transfers, lunch, and snorkeling can be arranged on the beach. Cost is higher and time-intensive, but worth it if you have a longer port day and want to avoid crowds.

Lombok is generally safe for tourists and cruise passengers. Petty theft (bag snatching, pickpocketing) is rare but possible in crowded beach areas and markets; keep valuables secure. Drug laws are strict; do not possess or use illegal substances. Political stability is good; the island has experienced no recent security incidents affecting tourism. Senggigi Beach itself is patrolled by informal beach staff and is well-trafficked during daytime. Avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas. Health standards are basic; drink bottled water, use sun protection, and carry basic medications. If you need medical care, larger private clinics in Mataram are available but quality is variable; serious cases may require evacuation to Bali.
Senggigi Beach is mostly flat and sandy, with easy beach entry. However, formal pathways and wheelchair ramps are minimal. Tender boats have steps and may be challenging for people with limited mobility; discuss accessibility needs with the ship in advance. The main beach road is paved but uneven in places. If you require wheelchair access, inform the cruise line before arrival; accessibility taxis and modified shore excursions are available but must be arranged ahead. For mobility-limited guests, staying at the beach near the tender landing is the safest and most practical option.
Ships tender you to Senggigi Beach, a sandy crescent backed by a low seawall and beachfront road lined with small hotels, warungs (local cafes), and souvenir shops. The landing area is informal; you'll walk across sand or a short pier to reach the beach proper. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid-back—no aggressive vendors or chaos, just beach stalls and families. The first 10 minutes feel tropical and quiet. The water is clear and warm. If you walk along the main beach road (left or right), you'll find more cafes, a small market, and snorkeling gear rental shacks within 5–10 minutes. No formal port terminal exists; just beach infrastructure.
The main and most accessible beach. Soft golden sand, calm turquoise water, coral reef suitable for snorkeling, and abundant beach cafes and rentals. Popular but not overcrowded. Good for families and snorkelers.
A neighboring car-free island with even quieter beaches, excellent snorkeling, and a slow pace. More rustic than Senggigi. Requires speedboat transfer and more time.
Senggigi Beach is lined with warungs (small local restaurants) serving grilled fish, satay, fried rice, nasi goreng, and fresh fruit smoothies. Meals are authentic, inexpensive ($3–8 USD), and quality is basic but safe if you eat where locals eat. Avoid ice in drinks if you have a sensitive stomach. For higher-end dining, small beachfront hotels have cafe-style restaurants with fresh seafood and Indonesian dishes at moderate prices ($8–15 USD). Vegetarian options are readily available. Fruit (mangoes, papayas, coconut) is fresh and cheap. Coffee is strong and good. Eat during daytime; evening food options are limited near the beach.
Senggigi Beach has small souvenir shops and beach stalls selling sarongs, shell jewelry, sunglasses, and tourist trinkets. Quality is inconsistent and prices are inflated for tourists; expect to bargain. A few small markets and clothing shops line the main road. There is no large mall or serious shopping infrastructure. Most cruisers skip shopping here unless they need a sarong or sunscreen. Prices are higher than Bali due to isolation, and selection is limited. Save serious shopping for pre-cruise Bali or later ports.
Ships anchor offshore and use tenders (small boats) to ferry passengers to Senggigi Beach or designated beach landings. Tender rides are typically 10–20 minutes.
Once ashore at Senggigi, taxis and informal ride-share (Grab app, if cell signal allows) connect to Mataram city center (45 km, 1–1.5 hours) or nearby towns.

You can go alone. Simply tender to Senggigi Beach and walk the shore. Snorkel gear is available on the beach for $5–10 USD. Shore excursions are unnecessary unless you want a guided island tour or a trip to the Gili Islands, which requires a speedboat and more time.
You will remain on the ship. Rough seas during wet season (Nov–Mar) are not uncommon. There is no backup beach access or alternative port. Ask the ship's staff about alternate stops or activities onboard if tender operations are suspended.
Lombok is safe for tourists. Check current travel health advisories for required vaccinations (hepatitis A, typhoid, and Japanese encephalitis are commonly recommended; malaria risk is low in Senggigi area). Drink bottled water and use sunscreen. Consult your doctor before travel.
